Ooops I slipped and ate a Cinnamon bun…with cream cheese icing!
Yes, I did! I slipped this week, and ate a cinnamon bun! And I’m ok with that. I know that I follow the 80/20 rule. I know that I won’t be having another cinnamon bun for quite a while, and if I do, It’s not the end of my world.
Quite honestly, I only ate half, it was just too sweet and I knew that half would leave me satisfied and not feeling deprived. I can also say that it tasted so good, but I felt ill after I ate it as my body just isn’t used to having foods like that anymore. My taste buds said “OH YEAH” my system said “OH NO…what are you doing to us?”
We’ve all done it, maybe yours wasn’t a cinnamon bun, but something else that you just couldn’t resist. Or maybe you promised yourself you would go to the gym or walk 5km 3 times a week and just didn’t get it done this week?
It’s not the end of the world. We are all human and the temptations out there are out of this world! Especially if you like cinnamon buns!
You might have had a day of bad choices? Or maybe even fell off the entire wagon all week, but it’s ok! You recognize it, that’s half the battle.
So instead of beating yourself up over it, or using unhealthy, negative “self-talk”, you know the little voice that says “Well you messed that right up so you failed, might as well have another one” Get over it! You slipped, push the negativity out and just get back into making healthy choices. Walk a block further! Add more veggies to your plate for a few days. You can’t undo the calories you ate that day, or the walk/workout you missed. It’s done and over, so just let it go and move on.
We believe strongly that if you follow the 80/20 rule you WILL succeed. Eat healthy 80% of the time if you can. If you were only eating healthy 20% of the time when you started this Exchange, and now you are eating healthy 40%, you are succeeding, you have improved, remember that and keep striving for that 80%. As the saying goes “Rome wasn’t built in a day". If you haven't read our post How To Use The 80/20 Rule For A Healthy Lifestyle then you can find a link at the bottom of this post.
Figure out what your trigger was, what could you do next time to make a better choice?
Sometimes the answer is just going to be “Because I wanted one” LOL
Maybe it was poor planning? Or an old habit?
In my case, it was a bit of all of it. We used to like to go to the city to this particular bakery for a coffee and cinnamon bun once in a while. I took our daughter and her friend, school shopping and low and behold that bakery is in that mall! (How convenient)
I didn’t plan ahead and take a good snack, I could smell those buns and fresh coffee and just decided why not! I ordered, sat down and ate ½ of it, and got on with my day. No guilt!
Today is another day, and I greatly enjoyed my Breakfast smoothie and have my salad prepared for lunch and a nice healthy supper all ready to be made. On with my healthy lifestyle.
Have you had a day recently that you have made an unhealthy choice? What was the outcome? Or what did you learn? Do you have a plan for the next time?
